About the role:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic sustainability consultancy team. As a Mechanical Engineer within the energy division of our sustainability consultancy, you will be a key player in advancing our commitment to environmentally responsible practices and promoting sustainable solutions. This role requires a versatile and innovative engineer with a strong background in mechanical systems and a passion for integrating sustainable principles into engineering projects.


About you:

You will play a central role in supporting mechanical services design on large projects, meet with clients and also support a specialist team of engineers and consultants. We are looking for someone with strong technical expertise, is able to work collaboratively with other team members and will help to generate new business development opportunities.


Key Responsibilities:

Energy Audits and Assessments:

  • Conduct energy audits to evaluate the efficiency of existing mechanical systems.

  • Identify opportunities for energy conservation and recommend improvements to enhance sustainability.

Life Cycle Assessments (LCA):

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to perform life cycle assessments (LCA) of mechanical systems and components.

  • Provide insights into the environmental impact of different design options.

Renewable Energy Integration:

  • Design and implement mechanical systems that incorporate renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or geothermal.

  • Evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of renewable energy solutions in diverse projects.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant sustainability standards, codes, and regulations in mechanical design projects.

  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in sustainable engineering.

Sustainable Design:

  • Lead and contribute to the development of sustainable mechanical systems, emphasising energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

  • Integrate renewable energy solutions and technologies into building systems and infrastructure projects.

Client Collaboration:

  • Work closely with clients to understand their sustainability goals and requirements.

  • Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively to clients and project stakeholders.

Project Management:

  • Manage mechanical engineering aspects of sustainability projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, environmental scientists, and other engineers.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on sustainable design.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Familiarity with energy modelling software and sustainable design tools.

  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) and relevant engineering software.

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, energy-efficient technologies, and renewable energy systems.

  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices and green building certifications.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement with minimal supervision.

  • Applicants should have their own transport and a full clean driving licence.
